WordLatte started because we struggled to learn words for the SAT exam.  How should we memorize hundreds of new words in three months?

Studying Classics at University of Richmond showed us that Latin and Greek roots can be used to solve this problem.  We also explored word study through French, Russian and Mandarin.  Across all languages, knowledge of roots helped us unlock new vocabulary easily.

Debate competitions in high school and university taught us how to present on unfamiliar topics without preparation.  Speaking new words spontaneously was hard.  Fear, hesitation, anxiety and language barrier were hurdles to using new words.

While volunteering with students in Europe and Asia, we used audio-visual and speech drills to teach English and public speaking.  For effective communication, building confidence with new words was key.

Working with startups in Israel and South Africa, we learned how technology can be used to build products for global impact.

Thus, we leveraged our experiences of word learning across languages, geographies and demographies to build WordLatte.
